Hiking
Beijing has many opportunities for hiking enthusiasts. Miyun or Huairou, located just outside of Beijing, are such places. Trails are available for a range of skill levels, with both short and longer trails at varying levels of intensity. Hikers not only enjoy the chance to escape from the city, but also have a breathtaking view of the countryside. Along several trails, hikers come across remaining sections of the Great Wall. Professional guides are recommended for safe and enjoyable outings. While daily excursions are ideal for a short getaway, camping is also permitted.

Cycling
While locals precariously weave their bicycles between vehicles on busy city streets, cycling in Beijing's hutongs and numerous parks is an excellent way to experience the city's unique culture. Bicycling is one of the most commonly used methods of intercity transportation, and is both convenient and a good way to gain a local perspective of the city. Bicycles are available for rent from many street vendors at very reasonable prices, and may also be arranged through local hotels. From the winding hutongs of Houhai to the leisurely alleyways of Nanluoguxiang, cyclings provides tourists a physically active and enjoyable way to move about the city.
